Update: More Schools in Henry County Equipped

Schools receiving equipment were Rocky Mount Elementary and Sontag Elementary in Franklin County, and Sanville Elementary and Laurel Park in Henry County. All elementary and middle schools in Henry County have now been equipped, while three of 12 elementary schools in Franklin County now have equipment. Schools share until they each can be equipped.

We will put this equipment to great use. I will deliver the equipment to the schools and take some photos to share with you. Thank you again!”

Lynda Harrill, QCV QuickStart Coordinator, adds, “It’s so exciting to see how fast things have come together in southside Virginia. The schools have welcomed us and we have received terrific support from the local communities. Tennis has been growing steadily since we first started in southside in August 2015 with Pittsylvania County. At the onset, we had six separate schools systems to train and 60+ public schools to equip, plus a handful of private schools. We now have only nine public schools in Franklin County and three public schools in Patrick County left to equip, so we are better than 80 percent done. We have also equipped two private schools. We are thoroughly pleased with how things have progressed in less than 18 months.”

ORIGINAL STORY: Charlottesville, Virginia (1/9/2017) – QuickStart Tennis of Central Virginia, Inc. (QCV) is pleased to report additional schools participating in the Jump Start QuickStart Tennis Initiative in Henry County have been equipped thanks to the generosity of the Harvest Foundation Youth Board and the Titmus Foundation.

Axton, Campbell Court, Carver, Drewry Mason, Rich Acres and Stanleytown elementary schools, Fieldale-Collinsville Middle School and the Carlisle School have been equipped. Mount Olivet Elementary was previously equipped with a contribution from Amy Lampe and equipment for John-Redd Elementary was provided by QCV at the training session in June 2016.

Only Sanville Elementary and Laurel Park Middle Schools now need equipment, and some smaller racquets will need to be purchased for John-Redd when it merges with Collinsville Primary later this year. Joshua Bocock, Henry County Schools Curriculum Coordinator and Monica Hatchett, Director of Communications, presented the equipment at each Henry County school. Mike Waddell is coordinating for QCV at Carlisle.

Lynda Harrill, QCV QuickStart Coordinator, says, “The generosity from the local community has been tremendous, so tennis is up and running way ahead of schedule. Training was just seven months ago and with the help of generous donors we’ve equipped almost all the schools already. That is such a great start toward growing a public tennis tradition and impacting so many kids in a positive way. We have big plans for tennis in southside Virginia. Stay tuned . . . QuickStart Tennis of Central Virginia is an all-volunteer, grassroots Community Tennis Association established in 2009 as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization to promote, develop and grow QuickStart Tennis in the heart of Virginia for all beginners, especially underserved youth, using the kid-sized QuickStart Tennis format.

QCV’s service area includes Albemarle, Amelia, Appomattox, Brunswick, Buckingham, Charlotte, Culpeper, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Fluvanna, Franklin, Greene, Greensville, Halifax, Henry, Louisa, Lunenburg, Madison, Mecklenburg, Nelson, Nottoway, Orange, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Prince Edward, Powhatan and Rappahannock counties and the cities of Charlottesville, Danville and Martinsville.

We currently serve 204 schools with 94,000 kids, 13 parks & recreation departments, three Boys & Girls Clubs and two YMCAs in 27 counties and three independent cities. We have also gotten tennis into PE classes in 30 additional schools with 14,000 students in southwestern and eastern central Virginia as part of the Mid-Atlantic Supercharge School Tennis Task Force.
