Harvest Youth Board to Host 7th Annual W. Dan Prince III Thanksgiving Eve Dinner

Martinsville, Va. — The Harvest Youth Board is thrilled to announce the 7th annual W. Dan Prince III Thanksgiving Eve Dinner, scheduled for  Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024, from 1-4 p.m. at Martinsville High School.
 

The free Thanksgiving Meal will be available for dine-in, carryout and delivery, ensuring that all members of the Martinsville and Henry County communities can partake in the holiday dinner experience. Community members wishing to order a meal for delivery should call (276) 500-5004 by midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024.

For those dining in or taking meals to go, no reservations are required. The menu consists of a traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey, stuffing, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, bread and a cookie. Each family with children under 12 will receive a copy of A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving by Charles M. Shulz, gifted by the Youth Board as a part of their commitment to promoting literacy. 

Last year’s dinner served over 3,400 meals, compared to 2,800 meals served in 2022. In addition, there were more than 240 volunteers at last year’s dinner. The Harvest  Youth Board distributed over 375 books to families. The event is a wonderful opportunity for the Martinsville and Henry County community to unite in a shared spirit of generosity and gratitude. 
 

Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring the success of the dinner. Their responsibilities include greeting, cooking, serving, packing, and delivering meals. To serve as a delivery driver, individuals must be 18 years or older and a licensed driver. Those interested in volunteering can visit www.harvestyouthboard.org to register by November 15th. However, individuals, especially those interested in being delivery drivers, are welcome to participate on the day of the event. 
 

Abby Branson, a Harvest Youth Board member, shared how vital volunteers are for this event. “Volunteers are the heart of our community, especially during the Thanksgiving season when we come together to support and uplift one another. We’re grateful for every volunteer who contributes their time and energy to make a real difference in MHC. Together, we create a stronger, more compassionate community.”
 

Harvest Youth Board member, Jimmy Dong, also expressed how this event provides a way to give back during the holiday season, “Every year, I look forward to and enjoy helping with the Thanksgiving Eve dinner. It makes me pleased to know that I can contribute to the betterment of this community”.
